One-bedroom apartment in a Brezhnev-era building for an artist

 Ufa, Bashkortostan

 Year of design: 2017

Size:  30 m2

Building type: Brezhnev’s brick 5-storey house

In a small one-room flat for a young artist, it was important to create a separate, isolated sleeping area. She paints a lot at home and wanted to separate her sleeping area from her work area.

Planning solution

Any layout issues can be resolved with decorative techniques:
1. A cosy place for painting was created on the balcony, and a special space was provided in the living room itself.
2. The sleeping area was separated using a wardrobe and translucent sliding partitions.
3. Ventilation and air conditioning systems were installed inside so that it was possible to close the doors and not breathe in the fumes from acrylic and oil paints.
4. In a similar layout, the area was also separated using a wardrobe. Here we also have a built-in wardrobe with translucent sliding doors.

Living room

The living room consists of a small two-seater sofa, above which watercolour and graphic works are hung. To the left of the sofa, there is a floor flower pot and a floor lamp with a stand for tea or coffee.
Next to it is a designer desk with pull-out drawers for work and drawing, illuminated by a sconce and a pendant lamp. In the centre of the room hangs a designer chandelier in the shape of butterfly wings. The TV area is decorated with wall cabinets and a sideboard that combine closed and open storage. A long-pile carpet with geometric shapes in different colours brings together the various shades of the textiles. The artist loves bright colours, so she particularly liked this design solution.
The bedroom area features a bed with a soft headboard and backrest, as well as a bedside table. A feather lamp was hung above the bedside table.

Kitchen

For the kitchen, we selected a designer table made of wooden legs and a glass tabletop, which adds a feeling of airiness and lightness. Geometric wallpaper visually increases the height of the ceilings. We hung a painting above the table and complemented it all with a beautiful designer chandelier, which also illuminates the painting and the table. Comfortable soft chairs complete the dining area. A built-in summer refrigerator is located under the window, decorated with facades in the style of the kitchen set. New beautiful cast iron radiators were installed to the left of the window. The kitchen is made of MDF and veneer. Open display storage is located at the top. The worktop in the work area is made of a metallised surface, creating the illusion of increased space. In fact, it is simply a shape — increased space for ventilation under the hob and a deep sink. Pull-out drawers and veneer fronts, coloured fronts and matt surfaces are made of MDF.

Bathroom

The bathroom turned out to be very bright thanks to the decorative wallpaper with a simple pattern, which is designed specifically for wet rooms. The terrazzo floor tiles slightly tone down the pretentiousness of the wallpaper and add sophistication. The marble sink bowl, which is mounted on a suspended designer cabinet with pull-out drawers, attracts particular attention.

The bathroom screen is lilac in colour and equipped with sliding doors. A glass partition has been placed between the cabinet and the sink. A beautiful mirror in a wide frame from the same collection as the suspended cabinet hangs above the sink.

Hallway

Bright wallpaper with a floral pattern was put up in the hallway, creating a lively atmosphere. Dark elements are combined with light details, such as white doors with glass and a mirror in an unusual white frame.
The decor was complemented with hangings. A built-in wardrobe and dressing room took the place of the former storage room, adding functionality. A small bench with soft upholstery and wooden legs was placed in the entrance area, giving it a cosy look.
